While I have been teaching third grade at Oakhills Elementary School for 25 years, each year has been special and unique. My passion for teaching and learning has truly impacted my evolving teaching style and values. Good teachers are lifelong learners. Each summer I have taken classes. I have participated in GATE training, the district's twenty-first century courses, Common Core training, and technology courses. This summer my focus will be on the new English Language Arts adoption.
I believe students learn best with a positive approach. I will be your child's teacher and coach. I value independent learning. My goal is to engage and involve students in their learning experience. I encourage class participation and curiosity. I also love to use humor when teaching and engaging the students.
I have several key beliefs. First, all students need high expectations. All children should have an opportunity to think critically and apply skills. I recognize that strengths and challenges are different for each child. Finally I recognize that learning is not universal for all students. There are times when students need remediation, and times when students need rigor.
Family is a focus in my life as well. I enjoy spending time with my husband, my two sons and my daughter-in-law. We all love the out-of-doors, and sports. We are skiers, hikers, scuba divers and cyclers. My husband and I love to travel and explore. I am also a voracious reader.
